History
To understand FATRONIK-Tecnalia's current positioning, it is important to go over its history, which can be divided into four large stages:
1986 - 1993 - Technology for the machine tool
FATRONIK-Tecnalia's work is centred on responding to the needs of a group of machine tool manufacturers in technological matters, developing its R&D.
- 1986 Year of establishment
- 1987 Development of the first flexible manufacturing system (FMS) in Spain
- 1989 Start of participation in European research projects
- 1992 Start of new company promotion activity
1993 - 1999 - Own research and development
FATRONIK-Tecnalia positions itself in different R&D contexts, finally adopting the legal form of a Foundation.
- 1993 FATRONIK-Tecnalia heads the first European research project in the III Framework Programme
- 1995 Creation of the "INTEC" centre in Argentina
- 1997 FATRONIK-Tecnalia becomes a member of FEDIT (Federación Española de Entidades de Innovación Tecnológica - Spanish Federation of Technological Innovation Entities) and is recognised as a Centre of the Red Vasca de Tecnología (Basque Technology Network)
- 1998 Creation of FEDET (Corporation dedicated to technology based business promotion)
- 1999 The FATRONIK-Tecnalia Foundation is established, as a non-profit legal entity
1999 - 2003 - Opening of markets and sectors
The first developments in the aeronautical production and renewable energies areas are added to the machine tool.
- 1999 First participation in the National R&D Plan
- 1999 The registration of the first two patents is initiated
- 2002 Creation of MARGUNE (Centre of Cooperative Research for high performance manufacturing)
2003 - Present - Industrial consolidation and technology for people
FATRONIK-Tecnalia consolidates itself as a national and international referent in the R&D field. Furthermore, it starts its commitment to working in a social context (health technologies) as well as the industrial context.
- 2003 Excellent results in the V Framework Programme. 11th Entity in the number of projects headed and 5th Technology Centre in returns achieved on a national level
- 2002 First projects on health technologies
- 2004 FATRONIK-Tecnalia heads the biggest European research project on production systems (NEXT), with a budget of 24 million euros
- 2004 FATRONIK-Tecnalia is awarded the Technology Centre category in the Basque Technology Network by the Basque Government
- 2005 The works of the second building in the Miramón Technology Park in San Sebastian are started
- 2007 Fatronik incorporates to the technology corporation TECNALIA.
And on a general level, during all this time, the most relevant milestone is, without a doubt, the configuration of a research team of excellence.
