Specific collaborations:The company contracts FATRONIK-Tecnalia to carry out a specific project, in the short term. development of a new product/process or improvement of the process, resolution of a problem... in short a given need as far as technology is concerned.

The development is carried out according to the customer's requirements, and the research results belong to the customer.

Multiannual technology agreements Personalised medium to long term research plans are identified and developed for the company, including prospective technological actions.

The intention is that FATRONIK-Tecnalia becomes a technological partner for the company, by means of our involvement in their projects with a participatory and complicity approach.

The closeness to the customer, the knowledge of its problems, added to enabling us to take initiatives, to be proactive, getting ahead of its needs and creating new opportunities.

Collaboration projects

These are projects in which FATRONIK-Tecnalia cooperates with one or several companies, sharing costs (each entity self-finances its development costs), and the research results.

Strategic R&D private financing

This business model responds to the interest companies have to go farther than the solution of specific, day to day problems, and to be capable of accessing the new technological advances in their action areas.

In this case, the customer partially finances the strategic research carried out by FATRONIK-Tecnalia in a given area of interest. Depending on the collaboration agreement reached, the research plan can be defined to a greater extent by FATRONIK-Tecnalia or by the customer itself or it can be established jointly. Logically, this will always respond to the interest of the two organisations.

The company invests in this way in medium to long term strategic research, with the possibility of obtaining different benefits as compensation, depending on negotiation with the centre: access to leading edge technology, ownership of the research results (patents, NTBCs…), priority in the exploitation of the results…

Technology - Risk

FATRONIK-Tecnalia has been one of the pioneering centres in providing companies with this type of collaboration.

It is an appropriate business model in projects of great interest to the company, but that entails a high risk. FATRONIK-Tecnalia assumes part of the development costs, in exchange for participating in the exploitation profits.

They are, therefore, long range technological projects with the companies in the joint work/agreement framework with shared returns and risks.

Sale of licenses

Numerous exploitable results are the result of FATRONIK-Tecnalia's developments in non-industrial areas.

The centre maintains an active policy protecting these developments, by means of patents and other intellectual property rights, which enable their subsequent exploitation.

We provide companies with the possibility of acquiring licenses on our patents, for the commercial exploitation of them.

Participation in NTBCs

FATRONIK-Tecnalia promotes the creation and consolidation of new technology based companies, as a channel for the results of their research to end up on the market.

Once a NTBC has been created, FATRONIK-Tecnalia participates in it, but never as a majority shareholder. It is therefore, a good opportunity for those entrepreneurs who are aiming to invest in new business projects, either considering technology as an investment or because they are complementary initiatives to their present businesses.
